Antiquing in Connecticut
If you're like Amy and me then you may be a lover of old things. In our spare time we love to go antiquing. Living in Connecticut there is a lot of rich New England history! We're pretty lucky to live in an area of the country that has items reminiscent and a part of American history. Growing up with a mom who loved antiques and an aunt who sold them, I naturally adored learning about antiques and collecting them today.
I wanted to share with you a list of antique places here in CT that are affordable and unique! While there are towns like Woodbury and Litchfield that carry some high class antiques, other towns offer a more rustic approach to antiquing. Some of the best stuff is covered in dust and just has to be restored to its original beauty! Here's a list of some great antique places in CT:
This is seriously one of my favorite places. On a rainy day you can get lost in this antique center finding some of the best things! From furniture, to jars, to prints, and antlers, this place has it all. Best yet, everything is well-priced and they offer a 10% discount if you use cash on anything over $10!
Addie's Cottage is place I've been frequenting ever since we moved to Connecticut. Although this space is much smaller than Stratford Antique Center, it offers unique pieces at some of the best prices! I scored a needlepoint chair there recently for $14, and it doesn't have to be reupholstered. Definitely take the trip to check out this quaint shop!
Amy and I couldn't agree more about Seymour's "best kept secret". This downtown area features a small three block range of shops including some amazing antique stores. While you're scoring some great deals you can stop at the General Store or Tea with Tracy for some delicious food and drink. This area is perfect for a spring afternoon!
I seriously adore this place mostly because it's eclectic and filled with a variety of great items, but probably because I grew up going here as well. My Aunt Carol used to sell items here, and year later although she no longer deals, we still frequent this place. The Elephant's Trunk is open from April-November on Sundays. There's a $2 admissions fee and cash only! It's impossible to not walk away with anything. There's something for everyone here! This is a nice area too so I suggest you head up towards Kent and Cornwall to continue on a great day trip!
A few months ago Danny and his mom brought me to this antique store on Main Street in Machester. I'm not too familiar with antiquing in the northeastern part of Connecticut, so I was excited to see a few new places! I love this antique store because it is affordable and has an assortment of items. The storefront is deceiving because this place is pretty big! Grab a bite to eat at Catsup and Mustard once your done.
My mom and I headed up to this general store a few years back to see my friend's art show. This place is great! They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner in addition to selling baked goods. The best part is the antique corner off to the left wing of the store! I love the three in one experience: pretty scenery, yummy food, and some beautiful antiques to top it all off!
I feel like I could write all day about my favorite antique places because there's so many that have offered different experiences and unique items. Now that spring is here it's a great time to get out there and find some awesome stuff!
I know there's so many places to still discover so if any of you Bloomers have a favorite place you'd like to mention then please comment below! We love exploring new places :)
