FEATURE FRIDAY // HILARY

posted on: Friday, July 25, 2014

We are so happy to finally be featuring our oddity-queen, Hilary! We know we can always count on her for unique pieces of handmade jewelry and Victorian-inspired cameos and florals. We love her mix of pretty and dark because they compliment each other so well. She's a full-time nanny with a passion to work with the elderly, and is engaged to our great friend Kevin. We love the time we get to spend with this girl. If you want to get a peak into more of Hilary's life then follow her on Instagram or Tumblr.

Happy Friday!

BABYDOLL FLORALS PART II

posted on: Sunday, April 13, 2014

It feels so good to not have to wear tights, and still be warm! All I really needed today was some light layering, which this maxi cardigan was perfect for. I wore this dress in my very first outfit post...and I still love it just as much. It's funny looking back on that to see how much has changed! Who told me it was okay to pose like that?! Nonetheless, though, it does make me happy to see how far Annalise and I have come in terms of many aspects of Black in Bloom.

Today I'm off to see Michael sing in his spring choir concert and get some much needed family time in. Happy Sunday to all of my Bloomers :)

Dress - Kimchi Blue
Hooded maxi cardigan - BDG
Boots - Steve Madden
Necklace - Forever 21

AN ABUNDANCE OF MUGS: A BIRTHDAY STORY

posted on: Monday, March 31, 2014

Hi guys! Sorry it's been a few days since we've posted. I just celebrated my birthday, dedicating the whole weekend to festivities so I was a bit busy! I also got a new tattoo and have been wearing some pretty ridiculous things while it's healing, so that explains my lack of outfit posts, ha.

Anyways, I got 10 cups/mugs for my birthday. Yup, 10! I couldn't be more excited about it either. Whether I'll be using some to decorate or drink my coffee and tea out of, each one of them is adorable and I wanted to share my abundance of mugs with you!

This set is from Annalise! They came in this adorable basket which I'll get great use of, and of course she put little lace bows on each mug :) These just scream my name and I'm so in love with them.

Angela got me this little bundle. The tiny baby one is my favorite, but they're all so pretty!

This one is from my friend Alex. The cherry blossoms bloom when you pour your hot coffee in!

Last but not least, my dad got me this really funny birthday mug. No, but really.....how do I make this growing up thing stop?!

All of these are now so special to me and if any of you guys are reading....thank you! I love you all so much!

PASTEL GARDENS

posted on: Friday, March 28, 2014

It's finally Friday! Although Amy and I typically bring you a Feature Friday, we wanted to focus on building our Modcloth storyboard this week, so we will bring you a lovely featured post next friday :) I bring to you a simple outfit that I wore the other day while it was still pretty chilly out. I wanted the focus to be on the pastel, soft garden flowers and pieced my gold compass necklace and mustard yellow sweater with it to accent the colors. I layered my light brown sweater over this look to tone down the loud gold tones, but still let them shine. I also got to witness my first signs of spring in New Haven with these budding beauties!

I hope you all have a great day, and are looking forward to the weekend!

Outfit Details:

Brown sweater- Forever 21 (similar)
Yellow sweater- Urban Outfitters (similar)
Romper- Urban Outfitters (similar)
Boots- thrifted

FLORAL COMBAT

posted on: Saturday, March 22, 2014

As warmer weather rolls in, I'm definitely bringing pops of pinks and brighter colors into my looks! I found this 90's style floral button up and I couldn't pass it up. It's actually a mens shirt, but that never stopped me before! Instead of styling it buttoned, I chose to wear it as a layering piece with my favorite gauze dress, and I loved it! Balancing girly shapes and colors with harder accents like my necklace and combat boots is what makes me feel like I'm expressing myself the best.

What's one aspect that you guys always bring into your outfits?!

LET THERE BE LAYERS

posted on: Wednesday, March 5, 2014

I find myself getting so sick of wearing puffy winter coats after a while, so I opt for the next best thing: layers. I definitely channeled my love for pattern mixing in this outfit. Also, my new obsession is this leather moto jacket. I had one a year or two back that was just the most perfect thing in my wardrobe, and I sadly lost it at a tattoo shop in NYC. However, I think I finally may have found it's replacement! I was so stoked on the way this jackets was shaped, but mostly the faux fur collar. When I got home....I realized that the collar was detachable...DOUBLE score. I'm really into how it looks here layered over my camo vest and floral overall dress.

To my Bloomers stuck in the winter like me...we're almost to warmer weather! Hang in there. Before we know it, we'll be rocking our sun dresses and favorite sandals.
