THE WAY WEST

posted on: Thursday, March 6, 2014

I can't tell you how great it feels to rediscover old items in my closet. I got this jacket at a thrift store over four years ago, and I believe I purchased this shirt around the same time (my love for western prints and patterns has remained through all my fashion phases!). I forgot how much I love both of these pieces until I gave them a good look today. This tee has gone through a few accidental bleach stains and holes, but has been worn with love. In addition, my mom let me wear her cute-as-heck boots today! I'm also pumped because my hair can finally be put in a small bun (winning all around!). I hope all you Bloomers can fall in love again with some old pieces in your closet.

PRINTS ON PRINTS

posted on: Thursday, February 27, 2014

So much for all that warmer weather because it's back to being single digits here in CT. Amy made a cute post yesterday about how we spent some time in downtown Seymour at Tea with Tracy! We took our pictures beforehand and didn't last outside too long because of how chilly it was, but warming up with a nice cup of tea was the perfect fix. It was really overcast and I wanted nothing more than to wear one of my favorite Free People tops and daisy dress with my camp socks.  I love playing with different prints and mixing them together! I also adore these Vera Wang boots I scored while thrifting a few years back!

It's almost the end of the week (yay!), and I hope all you Bloomers are excited for Friday as much as I am!

WARMTH OF WINTER

posted on: Monday, February 24, 2014

Before heading to VT this past weekend, I got to experience the promise of Spring (I know it will eventually get here!). With more snow on the way later this week, I was so excited to go outside before the next storm and be comfortable without a jacket, scarf or gloves! I decided to layer one of my favorite sweaters with a dress that I've had for a while now. To top it all off I wore the necklace that Amy's good friend Nicole made for me! She's seriously the sweetest, and I adore this necklace.

Outfit Details:

Sweater and Dress- Urban Outfitters
Boots- Chippewa
Necklace- Made by Nicole! <3

FEATURE // FRIDAY: CHRIS

posted on: Friday, February 21, 2014

We are so excited to feature our friend, Chris, this Friday! He's one of our favorite dudes because he has the best sense of humor, biggest heart and charming sense of style.

We are really into Chris' watch because it's truly one of a kind. Out of NYC, Throne Watches takes vintage watches and pieces them with custom leather bands. We had never heard of them prior to him introducing us, and are pretty stoked about learning about this company!

"I like to dress nice and make sure I look good when I leave the house. You never know who you're going to meet!"

We wanted Chris to be this week's Feature Friday because he's truly genuine and a good all around dude. We love that he's really devoted to his band, Heavy Breath, and takes the time to learn new hobbies and meet new people. On top of it all, he's a great friend!

...This is all starting to sound a little too much like match.com.

But we can't help it! Get to know this guy if you don't already: find him here

FEATURE FRIDAY: KAYLA & JOE

posted on: Friday, February 7, 2014

Hey everyone! Black In Bloom has decided to do "Feature Friday" each week to showcase your unique style! While we love bringing you posts of our personal style, we also want to share all of yours. We are excited to have Kayla and Joe be our first post for Feature Friday! If you're interested in being a part of this, please reach out to us and comment or email. We'd love to hear from you!

"When we first started dating we went out for
Chinese. I didn't get a fortune in my cookie, but Joe's had two fortunes in his. They said, ‘You and your wife will be happy in your life,' how crazy is that?!" - Kayla

"We work together at a local coffee shop. One time we closed together on Halloween and dressed up as Popeye and Olive Oil" –Joe
"Yeah! That was a lot of fun!"- Kayla

"I'd say my style is 'punk weekend dad'"- Joe

"Haha! He wears this denim jacket a lot. He also has a varsity jacket and a few others. He loves jackets!" - Kayla

"I love this cardigan. It's my favorite!" - Kayla

"I wear these boots a lot. They're such a great pair!" - Joe

What we love about Kayla and Joe is their ability to not only be a cute couple, but to also be true to their own sense of style. Joe kept his outfit casual, but still interesting with the little details like his Docs, hat and denim coat. Kayla was able to make this frigid day look not so bad with her cute knit head band, knee highs, and fisherman cardigan. We love how they look paired next to each other because both outfits are able to compliment one another.

We are so pumped to have had Joe and Kayla be our first Feature Friday post! We can't wait to bring you another next week. If you're interested, let us know! :)

FLORAL SNOW DAY

posted on: Thursday, February 6, 2014

All I can say is I am so happy Amy and I got out to take some pictures before all this snow and sleet! I love a great snowy day, but yesterday was just so dreary that it's nice to see some sunshine again. It's still been pretty cold out so I kept it a bit more casual the other day while still feeling cute. My sister got me this super cute head wrap for Christmas, which is perfect for the cold weather! I've also had this toggle coat forever (and have worn it to death!), but it's really one of my favorites. We are so excited to get more posts up this weekend! I hope everyone's having a great week :)

DENIM ON DENIM

posted on: Thursday, January 30, 2014

Hey everyone! We apologize for the lack of posts, but we are back and at it! When Danny and I were up in Kent last, I had to take some pictures of him. Although this winter has been extremely cold, there's some days that give a bit of relief. Danny was able to wear a chamois and long sleeve cotton tee underneath his denim jacket and still be comfortable. I love the denim-on-denim look, especially when it mixes darks and lights. I'm lucky to have such a great guy to take pictures of:)

Also, it's so pretty in CT this time of year I couldn't help but add one picture of some dried flowers!

Outfit Details:

Hat- Urban Outfitters
Sunglasses- Urban Outfitters
Denim Jacket- Wrangler, thrifted
Chamois- Cabela's
Long Sleeve Tee- Gap
Denim- Levi's 501 Shrink-to-Fit
Shoes- Vans sk8-hi

LAYERED LADY

posted on: Saturday, January 25, 2014

I can't express to you how COLD it is in New England right now (at least for CT!). Negative digits during the day is typically unheard of for our area. Maybe some of you are suffering through the winter freeze along with me. If so, then I'm sure you're sick of wearing puffy jackets every day! When I get bored of my oversized black coat I layer, layer, layer. The best part about layering is it can totally conform and mesh to your personal style. I love flannels, denim, and black. I'm always sure to buy a super nice wool blend or heavy cotton button up. I've layered a super soft flannel with a thick chamois and wool blend moto jacket. This way I'm able to play up patterns, colors and textures while still keeping warm. To top it all off I have my favorite cabbage rose Docs to keep my feet from getting full of snow! As much as I complain about the cold, I really do love winter.

Outfit Details:

Jacket- MinkPink
Chamois- LL Bean
Flannel- LL Bean
Knee Highs- Urban Outfitters
Necklace- Forever 21
Boots- Doc Martens
